The Sundance Institute has announced its line-up of films for the upcoming Sundance Film Festival 2015, scheduled to take place in Park City, Utah from Jan. 22 to Feb. 1 next year.  The lists include those in the Premieres (see below) and Documentary Premieres section, as well as films in the Sundance Kids, New Frontier, Park City at Midnight, Spotlight, NEXT <=>, and the U.S. and World Cinema Competitions, with the lineup of short films to be announced soon. The festival is expected to bring together an excellent collection of full-length movies and short films, along with other presentations, music events, and discussions.

"The work of independent artists inevitably reflects the state of our culture and the times in which we live," Robert Redford, President & Founder of Sundance Institute, said. "Their stories are often irreverent, challenging, compelling and unexpected, and not only possess the power to move and hopefully inspire audiences, but also to speak to our shared humanity."

Since 1985, the festival has been a venue for non-conventional films that have gained acclaim for their unique perspective and fresh take. Among the films that were featured in this event are: Benh Zeitlin's "Beasts of the Southern Wild" which was nominated for four Oscars; Valerie Faris' "Little Miss Sunshine," winner of two Academy awards out of four nominations; Luc Jacquet's "March of the Penguins," which took home an Academy award for Best Documentary Feature; "The Blair Witch Project" by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez, which grossed $248.6 million at the box office; among many others.

This year, there were 2,016 feature film submissions from U.S. filmmakers and 2,089 from other countries for a total of 4,105 feature-length film submissions. Of these, 118 were selected, 45 from first-time filmmakers. There were also 8,061 submissions in the short film category, for a total of 12,166 submissions.

There are 16 feature films vying in the U.S. Dramatic Competition and 12 in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition, while there are 16 entries in the U.S. Documentary Competition and 12 in the World Cinema Documentary Competition.

"Filmmakers in the Premieres and Documentary Premieres sections, many of whom are returning to the Festival, do not shy away from controversial, challenging and provocative subject matter," said John Cooper, the director of the Sundance Film Festival. "Their work enrages, engages and entertains audiences, shining a light on issues and people we thought we knew."
