Nintendo seems to be preparing for the release of Mewtwo as the game company staged maintenance downtime on its online network on Wednesday, April 15. The scheduled Nintendo Network maintenance briefly halted the normal online operations of games for "Super Smash Bros" for Wii U as well as the games for "Super Smash Bros 4" for Nintendo 3DS. According to iDigital Times, the online outage was scheduled from 2:50 to 4 a.m. EST on April 15. 

Prior to the "Super Smash Bros 4" maintenance, other games were also affected by an online outage on Tuesday. It includes the online play and rankings for several Wii U games like "Animal Crossing Plaza," "Puddle," as well as "Trine Enchanted Edition." The online play and rankings for some Nintendo 3DS games like "Mario Golf World Tour," "Nintendo Pocket Football Club," and "Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call" were also affected by the downtime on April 14. 

The system downtime for "Super Smash Bros 4" online could be Nintendo's way of preparing for the release of its latest DLC wherein Mewtwo will be included.

Those who managed to register their games for the DLC release with Club Nintendo before the end of March will get Mewtwo starting April 15 until Sept. 30. Mewtwo can be redeemed through Nintendo's in-game shop that can be found on the Nintendo 3DS, as well as the Nintendo eShop that can be accessed through the Wii U. 

After adding the legendary Pokemon character in the "Super Smash Bros. 4" lineup, fans of the game should expect an iconic character from "Earthbound" to join the roster of "Super Smash" players as well. Based on the earlier announcement by Nintendo, Lucas will join the game sometime in June.
