'Super Smash Bros' DLC update 1.0.9 now live: Ryu, Roy and Lucas characters aren't from fan polls

Ryu, Roy and Lucas are coming to "Super Smash Bros" soon via DLC but it isn't because the fans elected them to be there but because Nintendo originally wanted them playable in the first place. Game Director Masahiro Sakurai himself confirmed this.

According to Master Herald, Sakurai confirmed in his column in Famitsu that the three crossover character were already in development for "Super Smash Bros" when they started the fan vote. Mewtwo was the first one and the Pokemon was integrated in the title via DLC too.

Roy (Fire Emblem) and Lucas (Mother 3) will be sold $3.99 for either Wii U or Nintendo 3DS. For both consoles, buyers need to pay $1 more. Ryu (Street Fighter), who comes to the game with a special Suzaku Castle stage, will be $5.99 for each console and $6.99 for both.

More crossover characters will be arriving even after Ryu, Roy and Lucas have graced "Super Smash Bros." This is what Sakurai promised to players in the same Famitsu column. Characters from "Virtua Fighter," "Tekken" and "Animal Crossing" should be next to join the fun.

Meanwhile, Nintendo has already made available update 1.0.9 for "Super Smash Bros." In the release note, the gaming giant stated that the tweaks in the updated are made "for a more pleasant gaming experience." It is yet to add the announced crossover characters, sad to say.

"Users will be required to download this update prior to using the software's online multiplayer features. Because of this, we strongly recommend that all Super Smash Bros. for Wii U players download and install this update data," Nintendo writes along with the announcement.

To download, simply connect the Wii U to the internet and access "Super Smash Bros." From there, a pop-up will prompt the installation. Proceed and religiously follow the instructions and have update 1.0.9 running in no time.
