'Super Smash Bros.' Nintendo Switch rumors: New Mario game to drop on Nintendo Switch sometime this year

Nintendo will be releasing anew "Super Smash Bros." title for the Switch, rumors say.Facebook / Super Smash Bros.

A handful of nostalgic game titles have been brought into Nintendo's newest console, the Nintendo Switch -- more recently the "Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 and 2." Seeing this trend in game ports for the Switch console, it is only natural that rumors of another heavyweight title are circulating, which point toward "Super Smash Bros." as the next to undergo a port.

According to industry insider Emily Rogers, a new "Super Smash Bros." game will be released and introduced sometime this year. The said title will be integrated with new and old content that will be taken from the "Super Smash Bros." released for the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS. However, Rogers points out that it has not been confirmed whether the new game will just be a port with various enhancements or a full-on sequel.

Screen Rant argues that it makes total sense that Nintendo is planning to release a "Super Smash Bros." title for the Switch seeing as it has always been in the forefront of anticipated games and rank high in terms of game popularity. The success of the 2014 title released for the Wii U and the 3DS just adds to the many pieces of evidence, which make this move a sound strategy, they added.

However exciting this new development is, Wccftech reminds fans to take every speculation with a grain of salt no matter how convincing they may be. It adds that fans should withhold their enthusiasm until an official announcement from Nintendo comes along.

Nintendo's "Super Smash Bros." game series has been a staple in every player's game shelf since its debut in 1999. And through the years, it proved to be a compelling force in the game industry.

Elsewhere, Nintendo's current console, Switch, has sold over 10 million units since its outing. It has also been the primary platform for other successful games this year namely "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" and "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe."
