'Supergirl' midseason premiere spoilers: Non to cause turmoil in DEO

Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, Chyler Leigh as Kara's adoptive sister Alex Denver, and Laura Benanti as the villain Astra in the midseason premiere of 'Supergirl.'

The midseason premiere of "Supergirl" will air in less than a week, which is why CBS released the first of a series of photos to give a sneak peek at the upcoming episode in the second half of the season.

Based on the photos, Supergirl/Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) and the rest of the Department of Extranormal Operations (DEO) will still deal with her aunt Astra (Laura Benanti) after capturing her in the midseason finale.

But in the upcoming episode titled "Blood Bonds," Astra's husband Non (Chris Vance) will take his turn to spread chaos in the organization.

During the episode before "Supergirl" took a winter hiatus, it was revealed that Astra allowed Supergirl and DEO to target her so Non and his Kryptonian followers could attack and conquer Lord Technologies. This means that the scheming couple already planned their move before launching their attacks.

But what could possibly be Astra and Non's next move when the series returns in January?

The episode synopsis reads: "With Astra in captivity at the DEO, her husband, Non, captures Hank (Hank Henshaw), leading to a tense standoff between the two sides. Also, Kara continues to refute Cat's (Calista Flockhart) allegations that she is Supergirl."

Could this pave the way for Astra's escape from DEO?

Meanwhile, Kara must find a way to convince her boss Cat that she is not Supergirl, after the CatCo Worldwide Media CEO determined that she was the one who was protecting National City from destructive forces.

Cat has always been fascinated with the female superhero ever since she started saving the city from the bad guys. But when she found out that her own assistant at CatCo was actually Supergirl, the media mogul made sure that Kara knows about her discovery. Will she reveal Kara's secret to the entire National City?

"Supergirl" returns on ABC on Monday, Jan. 4.
