'Supergirl' rumored to have a crossover with 'The Flash'

CBS Official

"Supergirl" is once again rumored to have a crossover with another DC-based series, "The Flash."

Bleeding Cool reported last Thursday that its insider has informed of the possibility of a "Supergirl" and "The Flash" crossover.

Initially, the series that stars Melissa Benoist was only assigned 13 episodes, but an additional nine more episodes have been considered, the report continued. Once CBS pushes through with the extra episodes, the crossover special could happen, the source told the outlet.

If CBS orders the additional episodes, the crossover is said to be included for May. Not only did Bleeding Cool's source deliver this piece of information, but also the storyline expected when a crossover does happen.

According to the report, the crossover could feature the comics "New Krypton," which tells the story of Superman coping with the death of Jonathan Kent, his stepfather. At the same time, the Man of Steel in the story will deal with 100,000 Kryptonians residing on earth after Braniac released them from the bottle-sized city, Kandor.

This is not the first instance that "Supergirl" was rumored to have a crossover. Ever since "Supergirl" was still in development, fans have wondered if Benoist's character will exist in the same universe as "The Flash" and "Arrow," which are airing in a different network. However, CBS has issued a statement to clear these rumors over and over again.

"Well, those two shows [The Flash and Arrow] are on a different network," CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tessler said during a press tour, the news outlet gathered. "So I think we'll keep Supergirl to ourselves for awhile," she said.

When "Supergirl" aired its pilot episode, it garnered high ratings. However, without its lead-in, "The Big Bang Theory," the DC-based series' ratings plummeted, ComicBook reported.

There is speculation that the crossover with "The Flash," if indeed happening, could help increase "Supergirl's" ratings once again.
