CBS' "Supergirl" has just cast Jenna Dewan-Tatum as Lucy Lane. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, she is set to make her debut in the third episode and will be a recurring character throughout the season.

Lucy Lane is the younger sister of Lois Lane. Like her more famous sister, Lucy entered the world of mass media and journalism and is also the ex-girlfriend of Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks). Just like Lois, she is often depicted as a brash, adventurous type of girl who is willing to risk her life to get a story.

In the comic books, Lucy also managed to become one of the few to wear the mantle of Superwoman. According to a report from Screen Rant, it is unlikely that she will be gaining her superpowers in season 1 to allow the show to focus on Kara/ Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) but she may eventually turn into Superwoman later on.

Given how Kara has a crush on Jimmy Olsen, as seen in the promotional trailers, the arrival of Lucy may complicate Kara's romantic pursuits. It isn't confirmed if Kara and Jimmy will have an intimate relationship in the show but adding Lucy still adds a level of intrigue for the show other than costumed heroes fighting in the streets.

Dewan-Tatum was most recently seen by fans in the short-lived series "Witches of East End" and also in the NBC crime series "The Playboy Club." The actress had a recurring role in the second season of "American Horror Story" and also starred in some films opposite her husband, Channing Tatum, such as "10 Years" and "Step Up."

She will be joining other recently announced cast members such as Chris Brownings from "Sons of Anarchy" who is set to play the supervillain Reactron and "Nurse Jackie"-veteran Peter Facinelli who will play the billionaire mogul Maxwell Lord.

"Supergirl" season 1 is set to premiere this Oct. 6.
