'Supergirl' season 1 finale update - producer addresses cliffhanger ending

CBS

The finale episode of "Supergirl" saw Kara Danvers aka Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) dealing with the Myriad's attempt of brainwashing the population and then fighting off Non (Chris Vance) and Indigo (Laura Vandervoort) before tossing Fort Rozz into space. However, it was the cliffhanger ending that has received the most attention.

As stated in a report from TVLIne, as Kara was celebrating her victory a Kryptonian pod crashed right into National City, looking oddly familiar to the one that Kara rode on her trip to Earth when she was younger. The finale episode suddenly ended right as Kara opened the pod, a surprised expression sprawled on her face.

Speaking to the TVLine, executive producer Ali Adler revealed that they do have a good idea of who or what is inside the pod although the story has not yet been developed too far and that the other exeuctives for CBS have not yet been told about their plans and what direction they want to go with in season 2.

"Hashtag-who-or-what-is-in-the-pod. We've absolutely had conversations - we're waiting to tell CBS," Adler explained. "We prove what an incredible hero she is. She was sent to save this world, and she does."

Many fans speculate that the pod might contain Kara Danvers as she was several years ago, again just 12 years old. This would mean that her original pod that left Krypton may have entered some sort of black hole or other anomaly that spits out the same pod, as if time was continually looping.

CBS has yet to renew the series for a second season but Adler does explain that there are unofficial discussions that the show is most likely going to be renewed and that they are simply waiting for the official word to begin their prep for what's to come.

If "Supergirl" does get renewed it is expected to premiere sometime in the Fall of this year.
