'Supergirl' season 2 cast news: Two comic book characters joining show?

CBS

"Supergirl" season 2, which is shifting to the CW Network from CBS, is expected to see some changes, and according to Bleeding Cool, these changes might also include the introduction of two characters from DC comic book. According to the report, both Batwoman and Oracle could be introduced.

Kate Kane aka Batwoman and Barbara Gordon aka Oracle are both popular DC comic book characters but they are mostly associated with Bruce Wayne aka Batman, not Supergirl (played by Melissa Benoist) or Superman (played in the show by Tyler Hoechlin). However, the report points out that there are a few plot points that could explain the connections.

According to the report, Kate is going to be ex-girlfriend of Maggie Sawyer, a police captain who frequents National City. If Kate appears in this capacity she might only be in season 2 for a recurring guest role but nothing too significant.

Barbara Gordon, on the other hand, is stated to have a strong friendship with Kara aka Supergirl. The report points out that she will exhibit the same type of dynamic comic books fans saw in the Chuck Dixon era of "Birds of Prey" comics but now with Batwoman instead of Black Canary.

One of the main issues is that the TV rights to the "Batman" franchise belong to Fox, which currently have their own show titled "Gotham." According to the report, the CW might be able to get the character of Bruce Wayne aka Batman on their shows such as "Supergirl" from Fox but for a fee and the studios have yet to make any announcements if the deals had pushed through.

The report also points out that several other actors might appear given that they are now series regulars across the whole CW network of DC superhero shows. These include Wentworth Miller who plays Captain Cold, John Barrowman who plays Malcolm Merlyn and John Wesley Shipp, who now plays the Earth-3 Flash.

It is also hinted that Matt Ryan, who plays John Constantine, might also be receiving a similar deal and could also be appearing on "Supergirl" season 2.

"Supergirl" season 2 premieres on Oct. 10.
