'Supergirl' season 2 spoilers, premiere date: Superman and Supergirl don't see eye to eye; Man in pod identified

Chris Wood as seen in The ContainmentThe CW

"Supergirl" season 2, which will now air on the CW instead of CBS, will reveal the full identity of the person in the crashed pod that appeared in the finale of season 1. As stated in a report from Bleeding Cool, the "Supergirl" panel at the San Diego Comic Con revealed that the person in the pod will be played by Chris Wood.

Wood, known for his roles in "Vampire Diaries" and "The Containment," will be a brand-new series regular and it is suspected that he will be playing the character of Mon-El. In the comic books, Mon-El is first mistaken as a Kryptonian but it is later revealed he is a Daxamite, an alien species similar to Kryptonians but has a weakness to lead instead of Kryptonite.

In the comic books, Mon-El wears a costume similar to Superman but with reversed colors and he is often trapped in the Phantom Zone or is a character in the future. More importantly, he is notable member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, a team that has been teased in "The Flash" and "Legends of Tomorrow," indicating the CW may launch a "Legion of Super-Heroes" show in the future.

According to the report, if the character is indeed Mon-El he may be a worthy rival to Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and also a potential love interest.

In a separate report from Variety, it is also revealed that while Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) will finally be making an appearance in season 2, he might not always be in agreement with his cousin. This is because Superman grew up on Earth with these powers and learned how to harness them and he may have a different philosophy compared to Supergirl's.

"I think that Clark has a very different experience of what it means to have superpowers on Earth," explained executive producer Sarah Schechter. "He was raised with them, he has certain values so there's some real head butting and philosophical approaches that are different and we'll get into all that."

"Supergirl" season 2 will premiere this Oct. 10.
