CBS released a new trailer for the soon-to-be-released DC Comics series "Supergirl," and it comes with an inspiring message: "Why be ordinary...When it's your destiny...To be super."

The upcoming superhero action series centers on the life of Superman's cousin and one of the only remaining Kryptonians, Kara Zor-El, portrayed by former "Glee" star Melissa Benoist. 

Kara's parents sent her to Earth to escape the massive destruction in their home planet when she was only 12 years old, around the same time as the infant Kal-El, who later on turned out to be Clark Kent/ Superman. The young Kara was raised and protected by the Danvers in National City. Her foster parents Eliza (Helen Slater) and Jeremiah (Dean Cain) taught her how to conceal her powers to be able to keep her real identity a secret.

In the new trailer, an incident forces Kara to use her superpowers – save an airplane full of passengers from crashing. This prompted the start of her journey to become a superhero. Kara's foster sister Alex (Chyler Leigh) is also seen in the trailer, and she encourages her to fulfill her destiny of saving the world.

The network released the official synopsis for the pilot episode of the series, which reads:

After 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be."

"Supergirl" also stars Calista FLockhart as Kara's boss in CatCo named Cat Grant; Mehcad Brooks as the new CatCo art director and Kara's love interest James Olsen; David Harewood as the chief of the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO) who monitors Kara's activities after revealing her powers, to see if she is a threat to humanity; and Jeremy Jordan as Kara's trusted friend and colleague Winn Schott. 

Jenna Dewan-Tatum will also appear in the series as Lucy Lane and Laura Benanti will portray the role of Kara's birthmother Alura Zor-El. 

"Supergirl" premieres on Monday, Oct. 26, on CBS.
