The Winchester brothers will have to learn to work on their own and with limited help from their friend Castiel (Misha Collins) in the season premiere of "Supernatural" season 11 next month.

The long-running horror fantasy action-adventure drama will begin exactly where season 10 left off, when Rowena (Ruth Connell) cast a spell on Castiel to escape captivity in the hands of the demon Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard). Because of the spell, the angel involuntarily attacked the demon in the final moments of the previous season.

In a past interview with TVLine, "Supernatural" executive producer Jeremy Carver dished Castiel's journey in season 11.

"Castiel, first and foremost, has to find a way out of this spell that Rowena has cast on him — and that's not as easy as it may sound," Carver said. "Being under the influence of this spell is going to lead him to some pretty uncomfortable situations. So for Castiel, we're going to see him in something of a vulnerable state early on in the season."

Carver also shared that the angel will deal with his personal struggles to reestablish his role in the universe while working with Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) at the same time.

The report also mentioned that the theme of "Supernatural" season 11 is "You can't outrun your past." Carver said that the Winchesters will have to confront some notable figures they tried to leave behind. He also said that Sam and Dean will have to forge several unexpected and unethical alliances from their past, which may have dire consequences.

The official synopsis of the premiere episode of "Supernatural" season 11 titled "Out of the Darkness, Into the Fire" reads: "Picking up where the finale left off, Sam and Dean must deal with the Darkness that has been unleashed. Castiel deals with the effects of Rowena's spell and recalls his brutal battle with Crowley."

"Supernatural" season 11 premieres at  9 p.m. ET on Oct. 7 on The CW.
