"Supernatural" season 10 ended with Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) using Death's own scythe against him, killing Death and removing the Mark of Cain from Dean. However, killing Death released the entity known only as the Darkness. In season 11, the Darkness will pose a threat to more than just humanity. 

In a report from ComicBookResources, producers Andrew Dabb and Jeremy Carver said that early on in season 11, fans will know exactly what the Darkness wants. They continued to explain that the Darkness will not just be a threat to the Winchesters but to angels and demons as well, becoming a "global threat." 

Carver also stated that although they are treating the Darkness as a global threat, it doesn't mean that there isn't a relatable story.

"I don't think the Darkness thinks that the Darkness is a threat at all," he said. "Hopefully, sometimes that is the best Big Bad: They think they are the hero of their own story." 

This will mark a major change for the series, which has focused primarily on the Mark of Cain and its hold on Dean. Season 11 has been touted as a soft reboot that will harken back to elements and lore seen in the first season of the show. 

However, the Darkness isn't going to be the only cause of trouble for the Winchesters, as Dabb also confirmed that killing Death will have some negative consequences and that these repercussions will be felt starting in episode 2 of season 11. He also stated that this story-arc will be paced evenly throughout the first half of the season. 

Dabb did not detail what those consequences would be but mentioned that Death is a "cosmic being" and that there has always been Death. His disappearance will create issues, particularly for souls and reapers although he did not elaborate on what these issues will be. 

"Supernatural" season 11 premieres Wednesday, Oct. 7.
