'Supernatural' season 11 spoilers: The Darkness to be a primal force

SupernaturalCW

"Supernatural" season 10 ended with the Winchester brothers cheating and killing Death which caused the Darkness to be released from its confinement. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, actor Jensen Ackles - who plays Dean Winchester - described what fans can expect of the Darkness and what it will be like.

"As of right now we have it built as one specific entity, obviously that would be a character that we're introducing," Ackles explained. "This one's interesting because it's not really a monster. It's more of a primal force that we know nothing about. There's no lore; there's no guidebook; there's no instruction manual on how to deal with this."

This is quite the opposite of the enemies the brothers faced before. As Ackles mentioned, they always had a tool or book that they could turn to in order to learn about their opponent's history and weakness. That will not be the case with the Darkness, an entity that only God is completely aware of.

During the interview, Ackles described the Darkness as a female, using the word "her" in reference to the character. However, at this point, The CW Network has not made any official casting for the Darkness, so there are possibilities that Ackles is simply using this term while there is nothing else to describe the entity.

The report also cites that it will be interesting to see what the consequences will be for releasing the Darkness, a potentially omnipotent threat. Death described the Darkness in the season 10 finale as a great evil that God himself sealed away before the beginning of time.

As pointed out in a report from Screen Rant, the character has a lot to live up to, given that the Winchester brothers have faced a lot of formidable foes in the past seasons. The brothers have fought Death, Lucifer, and even prevented the Apocalypse from happening.

"Supernatural" season 11 premieres this Oct. 7.
