Supernatural season 9 closed out with a shocking finale episode, and the team is now busy preparing for the new season.

Supernatural has been renewed for season 10 to the delight of fans, and the latest news regarding the upcoming episode is that Mark Sheppard (Crowley) has been promoted to series regular.

The CW network announced Friday that Sheppard will become a series regular, after his character Crowley played a major role in the season 9 finale.

The Crowley character was first introduced in season 5 and has since had recurring roles.

Another actor set to be a series regular for season 10 is Misha Collins, who was also a regular for seasons 5, 6 and 9.

The season 9 finale indeed ended with a cliffhanger as fans saw Dean killed while fighting Metatron. He then came back to life after Crowley placed the First Blade in the hand of his dead body. However, Dean, who was once a hero, is now on the other side with the signature black eyes.

The latest twist left fans craving for more as they wonder what will happen to Dean.

Jared Padalecki, who plays the younger Winchester brother in the series, dished that the season 10 premiere will deal with Dean's transformation.

"The final 30 seconds of the finale ... certainly sets up what's going to happen with Season 10," Padalecki told Zap2it.

Regarding his character Sam, Padalecki said: "Sam sees Dean in this situation that Sam was in Season 4, so he's saying to his brother, 'Buddy, you had to help me off the edge five years ago and now you're doing the same thing. Open your eyes!' But that's something I understand. I know what it feels like to love somebody, a family member, and go, 'Listen, man, push through.' I've been there. I get it. It's kind of like what Dean said to Sam at the end of last season. 'Listen, there are other ways to do this, get off the ledge.' It's nice to play that."
