When the American horror fantasy television show "Supernatural" closed its eleventh season two months ago, fans were left in shock to see Mary Winchester, the mother of the series' main protagonists, Sam and Dean, resurrected from the dead.

Speaking to Hollywood Access, "Supernatural" lead star Jensen Ackles revealed that the twelfth season of the TV series will pay attention to the story of Sam and Dean's mom.

Ackles, who plays Dean Winchester in the show, said he had already read a teaser for the upcoming season, but remained tightlipped on the details.

"That's the biggest question, right? What is she doing back? Why is she back? What's happening? I don't have any answers," Ackles said about Mary Winchester's storyline.

It can be recalled that in the finale of "Supernatural" season 11, Mary was resurrected by the Darkness as a sign of gratitude to Dean for reconciling her with God.

In a separate interview with TV Line, Ackles also said that he would like to revisit past elements of the show in the twelfth season of "Supernatural."

"Purgatory, I thought, was a really, really cool part of the story," he said in the TV Line interview. "That might be cool to maybe go revisit."

"I'd also like to see more of a hunter network," Ackles added. "I'm a big fan of the original format of the show, the monster-of-the-week kind of thing. [But] I don't know how we necessarily get back to that with everything that's happened."

He also said that he found the expansion of the Men of Letters mythology "really cool."

"That's certainly an avenue we can explore," he says, "and I think we will."

Jared Padalecki, for his part, meanwhile told TV Line that he would like to do more scenes with Misha Collins, who plays the angel character in the series, Castiel.

"I get a lot of Sam/Dean scenes, and I love Jensen, but I love exploring the Sam/Castiel relationship too," Padalecki said.
