Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles talked about the fate of the Winchester brothers in the "Supernatural" season 12.

During an interview with TVLine after they presented a Saturn Awards to series creator Eric Kripke Wednesday night, Padalecki confirmed the fans' biggest nightmare after the season 11 finale – Sam was shot by the British Men of Letters member Lady Toni (Elizabeth Blackmore).

"I don't know where, but I know she shot him," the actor said. This could mean that Sam will be holding on for his life once again before the upcoming season even begins.

But Padalecki was not surprised that his character's life is once again in danger in the upcoming season.

"What else is new – Sam gets injured," Padalecki jokingly added. "At least I'm not getting tortured – yet."

Meanwhile, Ackles teased a possible reunion between the Winchester brothers and their mother Mary (Samantha Smith) next season, thanks to Amara's (Emily Swallow) parting gift.

Fans got a glimpse of the mother-and-sons get-together toward the end of season 11. But Ackles revealed that the long-lost Winchester matriarch will still be around in season 12. But he also admitted that he and Padalecki have yet to meet with new showrunners Andrew Dabb and Robert Singer to know how that story pans out.

Padalecki expressed his excitement over the upcoming twist involving Sam and Dean and their mother.

"I love [Mary's portrayer] Samantha Smith. So I was like, 'We get Sam back! That's awesome!'" the actor stated. "My reaction as a fan of the show was, 'What a cool show to be a part of where we can do that and get away with it.' [That] and I was just really stoked."

Fans of the long-running fantasy horror series will find out what's next for Sam and Dean when the series returns on The CW on Thursday, Oct. 13.
