'Supernatural' season 12 spoilers news update: New details on Rick Springfield's character revealed

Castiel will go after Lucifer who inhabits the character of guest star Rick Springfield in "Supernatural" season 12 The CW

The first half of "Supernatural" season 12 will be devoted to the search for Lucifer, who has been moving from one vessel to another after controlling Castiel (Misha Collins).

The next body he will inhabit will be that of a Rick Springfield, a character of his that it. The 1980s rockstar was tapped to be part of the new season.

"I play this rock guy who gets possessed by Lucifer, because Lucifer has just escaped from wherever they put him last season," Springfield explained to Billboard regarding his character.

The rock icon, who recently showed off his acting chops in "True Detective" and "Californication," also spoke about his experience on the set of "Supernatural" season 12.

"He's always looking for a human host to do this bad stuff to the world, and I happen to be that human host. It's really fun, well-written," Springfield said.

"And the effects are insane; the other day I spent two hours in the makeup chair getting ready for this one scene. It's really incredible stuff," the Grammy Award-winning rock superstar went on to say.

The "Jessie's Girl" hitmaker admitted that he has not watched "Supernatural" before stepping into the Lucifer role, but was blown away by how big the show was.

Executive producer Robert Singer revealed in an interview with Buddy TV that the early part of "Supernatural" season 12 will focus on Lucifer and Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean's (Jensen Ackles) efforts to seize him.

Castiel will also be a big part of this arc seeing that he suffered so much when Lucifer used him as his vessel in the previous season.

Lucifer is body jumping, which means that Springfield's character is just one of the people he will inhabit in "Supernatural" season 12.

Of course, before Sam and Dean can go after the baddie, there's this slight problem of Sam being kidnapped by the British Men of Letters. Saving his brother will be Dean's business early in the new season.
