Surface Pro 4 release date: Microsoft to launch tablet, Band 2, new Lumias in rumored October event

Microsoft's Surface Pro 3Microsoft

October will be a big month for Microsoft. The Redmond-based software giant is reportedly releasing a slew of new products, which include the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, the Lumia 940 and 940 XL, and the Band 2. There's also word that an Xbox One Mini will be showing up, too.

Of the flagships, probably the most awaited announcement will be that of the long-rumored Microsoft Surface Pro 4, which is touted as a powerful successor to the current Surface Pro 3. The current flagship tablet is said to be the most powerful and most successful one yet.

The upcoming Surface Pro tablet is allegedly getting an Intel i7 or an i5 processor. There's also uncertainty on what storage options it will offer, or if it will be a 12- or 14-inch unit. However, it is claimed that the device's strongest selling point will be its 17-hour battery life.

As for the Lumia 940 and 940 XL smartphones said to be released with the tablet, rumor mills have been claiming that the former will come with a 5.2-inch display while the latter will get a 5.7-inch screen. The smaller one is allegedly packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, while its big brother is getting the more advanced 810 chipset. Both devices, however, are expected to offer 3 GB RAM and at least 32 GB of storage. Their similarity extend to their cameras – a 20-megapixel PureView shooter on the back and a 5-megapixel snapper on the front. It remains to be seen if they will have the new Windows 10 up and running.

Not much details are available when it comes to the Microsoft Band 2 but it is expected to sport upgrades to the company's first fitness tracker offering. The wearable is also purportedly getting more power in a much thinner build.

The Xbox One Mini, on the other hand, is said to be just one-third the size of the standard new-gen console. There are doubts about its existence though, with the source of the report, WPDang, now taken down.
