'Switched at Birth' season 4 spoilers: Lily, Daphne, and Bay to face more heartaches

Lizzy Weiss hints of more heartaches in "Switched at Birth" season 4.ABC Family

Showrunner Lizzy Weiss recently revealed their plans for Lily (Rachel Shenton), Daphne (Katie Leclerc), and Bay (Vanessa Marano), the three girls on the spotlight for "Switched at Birth" season 4.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Weiss discussed about Lily's unexpected pregnancy and how the situation got more complicated after the discovery that the baby has Down syndrome. Last episode, Lily confided in Daphne about her predicament. The latter advised her to tell Toby (Lucas Grabeel) about the baby, but Lily was adamant that he should not know.

The two broke up last season after Lily admitted to Toby that she had been attracted to another guy while they were still in a relationship. As much as Toby loved her, he decided that it would be better for them to part ways. What they did not realize that time was that Lily was already pregnant with his child.

Weiss revealed that she and the writers have been considering the inclusion of a pregnancy storyline for the series even in season 3.

"This is a story the writers and I had talked about last season, and we were just really interested, as a room, in exploring. With the campus assault, we didn't have time creatively to get into it and so we felt like we had the time this season to really explore the story," she said.

Meanwhile, the executive producer revealed that Daphne will once again face a big hurdle this season after overcoming the traumatic incident in her past. She will also be dealing with problems in her love life, as her relationship with Mingo ((Adam Hagenbuch) deepens. Much of their quarrels will reportedly be due to their differences. Weiss also revealed that one of their major fights will be when Mingo's parents come to have dinner with them.

"They do have some troubles ahead. They're very different. He's not a student, he's more into working out and hanging out and they have some bigger troubles ahead," said Weiss.

As for Bay and Emmett's (Sean Berdy) love story, the showrunner was vague in her answer on the possibility that the two will be getting back together. She said that when Bay told her then boyfriend that there will be no second chances for them once he gave up their relationship, the teenager meant it.

According to Weiss, "She meant it when she said it. I stand by that. So who knows? Don't people say that and things happen down the line and they laugh about it later?"

"Switched at Birth" airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC Family.
