Switched at Birth will finally be airing its fifth and final season on Freeform on January next year as Freeform confirmed its release date.

According to a report by TVLine, the final season has been confirmed to air on January 24, 2017 for a 10 episode run.

Fans have long been waiting for the continuation of the story in the wake of the show going on an extended hiatus after its October 26, 2015 episode.

Among the milestones to watch out for include the show's 100th episode as well as its extended series finale which will run for 90 minutes.

Another piece of good news from Freeform is its release of a promo for its upcoming season.

Based on the short video, the show will take up after the mysterious call Daphne and Bay received at the end of the last season and whatever news they received will bring them back home. As they return, they will realize how much everything has changed and they will be brought back to dealing with issues about their family, their relationships and their history. It is expected that at some point, the sisters will rethink the wisdom of their decision to return, Carter Matt reported.

It can be recalled that in an earlier interview with show creator Lizzy Weiss, she expressed elation over the opportunity to close the series the way they envisioned it to be.

"The episodes will air in 2017 and you will see our final 10 stories and how we send off these characters. As for the people who made it all happen, I couldn't have scripted a more perfect ending than last night. it was just a little piece of magic," she said.

The season is expected to welcome new characters like tattoo artist Noelle, who will be played by actress Valery Ortiz and university student Luca, to be played by Michael Galante. How they will impact the final 10 episodes remains to be seen.
