Speculations about the surprise call that Bay (Vanessa Marano) and Daphne (Katie Leclerc) received in the fourth season finale continue to appear in online discussions prior to the premiere of "Switched at Birth" season 5.

At the end of the previous season, the switched sisters decided to start their new lives away from all the drama by moving to a city in China. Bay finally found a nice job working as a tattoo artist, while Daphne found a clinic where she could work. But while both girls were finally living their peaceful lives abroad for 10 months, they suddenly got a very important phone call that urged them to return to the U.S. as soon as possible.

According to speculations, the phone call could have come from Daphne's biological parents and Vanessa's legal parents John (D.W. Moffett) and Kathryn Kennish (Lea Thompson). They are rumored to be having marital problems, and the two wanted to tell both Daphne, Bay and their brother Toby (Lucas Grabeel) personally that they are planning to get a divorce.

Other speculations claim that one of Bay and Daphne's family members will have trouble with the law, or Daphne's legal mother and Bay's biological mother Regina (Constance Marie) will be in the middle of a huge financial problem. The sisters might also want to hop on a plane to help Toby in case his and Lily's (Rachel Shenton) new son Carlton faces a health problem.

But while Freeform remains silent about the plot for season 5, series creator Lizzy Weiss revealed that the final season of the series will air on Jan. 24. The upcoming season will also feature the series' 100th episode.

Fans of the critically acclaimed series should also look forward to the special 90-minute series finale that will wrap up the show.
