Those who have been waiting for more "Sword Art Online" updates may get their wishes answered at the fifth-anniversary event of the series this coming February.

According to Dengeki Online, there will be a fan event this Feb. 5, and new information on "Sword Art Online" season three and the upcoming spin-off Gun Gale Online will most probably be provided there. Fans are also hoping they could get concrete details on the third season of the main series, since the premiere date for the spin-off series has already been announced.

One thing's for sure, the anime series is sure to return on television this year, thanks to the recent tweet of "Sword Art Online" creator himself, Reki Kawahara. "Happy New Year! 2018 is the year for GGO & SAO 3," the tweet reads. Fans have been bubbling with excitement since then, since it's been years since fresh episodes of the series were aired.

Many are hoping that fresh new visuals—or even just a short teaser trailer will be provided at the event. The third season of the anime series will focus on the Alicization arc of the light novels, the longest arc in the series so far. It's over ten light novel volumes long, longer than the Aincrad and Fairy Dance arcs—which only comprised of five novels in the series.

Meanwhile, fans might have to gear up for this spring for "Sword Art Online's" first anime spin-off, "Gun Gale Online." A-1 Pictures has already confirmed its release schedule, which is set to air this April.

The announcement was made by the "Gun Gale Online" production staff via social media last Jan. 3, and it will follow the story of abnormally tall student Karen Kohiruimaki and her adventures under the avatar Llenn, as she delves into the world of Gun Gale Online.
