The deadline to file your taxes for the year of 2013 is Tuesday, April 15.

April 15 will be the last day for people to file taxes without an extension, and the deadline will be until midnight.

For those who are still scrambling to fill out the tax return and require an extension, see below on how to get an automatic six month extension until Oct. 15.

To get the extension to file your federal individual income tax return, first fill out Form 4868 (pdf download here).

However, this form is simply just to extend the submission of the tax return form, meaning that federal taxes are still owed to the government on April 15. Taxpayers are advised to use tax calculators to estimate how much tax they owe and pay it by the deadline, while applying for the extension.

Be advised that the IRS will charge interest on any amount not paid by the April 15 deadline.

For those who want to amend tax returns, be sure to file the 1040X Form with the corrected information, detailing the changes being made.

Individuals who owe less than $50,000 can file to make monthly payments by downloading Form 9465.
