'Tekken 7' news: character list includes Gigas

Gigas in Tekken 7Bandai Namco

"Tekken 7" has just launched in arcades all over Japan and the title will be released in the West sometime this year. Currently, the character roster continues to grow bigger, with yet another addition to its lineup. As reported by GameSpot, Bandai Namco  released a new trailer showcasing the newest character, a hulking fighter called Gigas.

According to the report, Gigas resembles the physique of the villain Bane in "Batman: Arkham Asylum" and its sequels. This is because Gigas is also a large, bulky fighter with a mask covering his face and tubes all over his body. Bane needs the tubes to supply the drug known as Venom but Gigas may just be using tubes for aesthetic purposes.

Producer Katsuhiro Harada describes Gigas as an "unknown gargantuan" and "character of great physical strength."

Gigas becomes available in Japanese arcades starting April 28.

Previous fighters that were recently added to the game's roster include Filipina fighter Josie Rizal, fan-favorite Devil Jin, and "Tekken 3" veteran Jin Kazama. According to a report from Den of Geek, the tactic of releasing new characters per week is to keep the fans returning to the arcades in order to see which new character has been added.

Fortunately, there has not yet been a storm of complaints regarding Gigas and his character design. The company recently saw fans complaining about the designs of characters such as Lucky Chloe, Josie Rizal, and Shaheen because of how they portray fighters of different nationalities and fighting backgrounds.

"Tekken 7" saw a limited release in Japan on Feb. 18 and was later released in arcades all over the country on March 18. The game utilizes the Unreal Engine 4 which is why Den of Geek speculates that it won't take very long for Bandai Namco to later import the game to home consoles such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
