'Tekken 7' release date: Guest characters could be coming

Guest characters could soon become part of the "Tekken 7" roster.

At the very least, they appear to be in consideration for the game.

Rumors about guest characters coming to "Tekken 7" first began to bubble up after an interesting exchange between a fan and the game's director Katsuhiro Harada on Twitter. Harada was questioned about the possibility of guest characters coming to the game and the director responded by saying, "It's 'if.' Tell me your idea hehe."

Harada's playful response is nowhere near close to a guarantee that guest characters are indeed coming to the game, but he does at least seem open to the idea.

Even with no guarantee of guest characters, Harada might be more favorable to the idea if some characters gain massive support, according to Attack of the Fanboy.

The guest character feature is nothing new, particularly to fighting games.

Popular fighting game franchises such as "Soul Calibur" have featured guest characters in their games and "Mortal Kombat X" has done so this year as well for their best-selling title.

"Tekken 7" following in the footsteps of "Mortal Kombat X" could help fetch the game a little more mainstream recognition that it can hopefully turn into solid sales figures.

If there are indeed guest characters coming to "Tekken 7," news of it may be officially announced at the Tokyo Game Show.

Harada has already indicated that he will be making a major announcement at the event, according to Venture Capital Post, although it's unknown what exactly the news will be.

Harada's announcement could very well be about guest characters, or it may also be about a new face joining the "Tekken 7" roster.

The game's director could also go in a different direction and simply announce when "Tekken 7" will be coming out for both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.

Fans will simply have to stay tuned to see what Harada's grand revelation actually turns out to be.
