The Tennessee Titans are bound for greatness after rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota played splendidly in his National Football League (NFL) debut where they took on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tennessee's game against the Bucs last Sunday was much anticipated because it featured the matchup of the top two picks in the 2015 NFL Draft.

The Titans had the number two overall pick in Mariota while Tampa Bay had the number one pick quarterback Jameis Winston.

Both were successful in their collegiate careers and were also former Heisman Trophy winners.

But in the end, it was Mariota who stood out and shone as the Titans opened their 2015 campaign with a dominant 42–14 victory over the Bucs.

Mariota completed 13 of his 16 passes for 209 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions thrown.

Two of those touchdown passes were completed in the first quarter and the other two were in the second quarter.

"It felt great. I'm proud of the guys in the locker room. We worked hard all week to be able to execute well, and to be successful is good for us," Mariota said following the win, according to ESPN.

The 21-year-old rookie's performance made him the only quarterback besides Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton to throw for four or more touchdowns in their very first NFL game, ESPN reported.

On the other side of the field, Winston struggled for Tampa Bay having only 16 completions out of 33 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns, also throwing two interceptions.

Winston said after the game, according to ESPN, "I believe we're going to bounce back. That's what we'll do."

Mariota's performance breathes hope into the Titans who have struggled in the past, including a 2–14 regular season finish last season that made them miss the playoffs for the sixth consecutive year.

The Titans will continue their 2015 season on the road taking on the Cleveland Browns at FirstEnergy Stadium for Week 2.
