Thanksgiving is a time for families to spend time together, but this year, Teresa Giudice has reportedly asked her family to spend the holiday without her to spare her young daughters from the experience of celebrating behind bars.

"The Real Housewives of New Jersey" is currently serving the remainder of her 15-month prison sentence, and according to People magazine, the star asked her family to have Thanksgiving in New Jersey instead of with her in the federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut.

"Teresa wants Thanksgiving to be as normal as possible for the girls," said a source to People. "She just wants the girls to have a good day."

The insider added that while Teresa and her fellow inmates will be dining on fare prepared by the prison cooks, her family will be spending the day with relatives.

For now, it is unclear whether her family did honor her wishes, but it is certain that she will be celebrating Christmas with them in a few weeks. The cookbook author will be released on Dec. 23 for home confinement, and she will be reunited with husband Joe and daughters Gia, 14, Gabriella, 10, Milania, 9, and Audriana, 6.

Apart from her release from prison, the family will have a lot to celebrate since it was recently reported that their New Jersey home is now out of foreclosure and that the mortgage on the property is now up to date. The family's lawyer, James J. Leonard Jr., confirmed this to People magazine earlier this month and said that losing the family home was never an option for Teresa.

It has been reported that many projects are in store for the reality star once she is released from jail. Teresa is expected to join the season 7 cast of "The Real Housewives of New Jersey," and according to The Hollywood Gossip, the star is expected to make $750,000. She will also be around for the debut of her prison memoir, "Turning Tables: From Housewife to Inmate and Back Again" which will be released by Gallery Books on Feb. 9, 2016.
