According to CleanTechnica, a supposed leak came from an insider from Tesla itself. Reportedly, the new Tesla Model 3 will look like a smaller version of the Model S sedan. Aside from the Model 3 being a "mini" model of the sedan, the upcoming addition also looks to be a downgraded Model S version. The supposed insider said, "Model 3 looks very similar to Model S, just smaller and without luxury features like leather seats... Cost saving is due to Gigafactory, smaller battery and economy features."

The industry follower said that the upcoming Model 3 being in the same mold as the others is not surprising, as it will still sport a distinct Tesla look. However, the website noted that some fans who are waiting for the Model 3 may also be disappointed as allegedly, Tesla CEO Elon Musk went on record to say that the Model 3 will not look like anything else when on the road.

Meanwhile, Yahoo Tech reported that Tesla co-founder and CTO JB Straubel's appeared at IHS Energy CERAWeek. In his talk, Straubel apparently revealed some general details of the upcoming car.

Straubel said that the Model 3 will have a smaller design footprint, comparing its dimensions to an Audi A4. However, Straubel did not provide any tech specs of the Model 3. He did, however, tease that the upcoming Tesla Model will have new, next-gen Tesla technology, and that it "will surprise people with the level of features it includes."

Straubel also hinted that the new features will not have anything to do with performance. The Tesla CTO said, "We don't really need more performance, we don't really need much more range, we need to focus on cost."
