"The Angry Birds Movie" was released last May, and its successful movie debut has urged its creators to develop a sequel, "The Angry Birds Movie 2."

"Angry Birds" was originally a mobile game developed by Rovio Entertainment Ltd. that was released back in 2009. The title comes with basic gameplay and rules. Players are required to use a slingshot to fling birds against structures that protect green piggies in order to defeat the game.

The "Angry Birds" game has garnered millions of users and fans from around the world, which eventually lead to several spin-off games, books, animated cartoons, and eventually, a movie.

After Rovio's initial release of the "Angry Birds" game back in 2009, Rovio's revenue has declined for three consecutive years from 2013 up to 2016, amounting to a loss of $14.5 million USD, forcing the company to lay off half of its workforce back in 2014.

Fortunately for Rovio, the 3D animated comedy, "The Angry Birds Movie," garnered approximately $346.9 million USD, which is more than double of their budget for production which is approximately $70 million USD. On the movie's opening weekend alone, the movie earned $38.3 million USD, even surpassing "Captain America:Civil War."

"The Angry Birds Movie" tells the story of three flightless birds, Red (Jason Sudeikis), Speedy Chuck (Josh Gad), and the Volatile Bomb (Danny McBride) in their fight against mysterious green piggies. The movie also featured the voices of known celebrities including Peter Dinklage from "Game of Thrones," Tony Hale from "Arrested Development," Maya Rudolph from "Bridesmaids," Bill Hader from "Trainwreck," and even a couple of Youtube stars such as Smosh's Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla.

Furthermore, according to The Wall Street Journal, Chief Executive Kati Levoranta hinted that Rovio is now working on the sequel to the movie. Unfortunately, there is still no news about the upcoming movie's plot, cast, or release date.
