Megan Boone's involvement as Liz in the rest of "The Blacklist" season 3 and beyond remains unclear after the dark turn of events in the show's recently aired two-part special that was full of shocks and revelations.
[Spoiler Alert! Details about "The Blacklist" season 3, episodes 17 and 18 follow. Proceed with caution.]
In the last minutes of "Mr. Solomon: Conclusion," Liz died as doctors tried to save her and her baby after the car accident. The synopsis for "The Blacklist" season 3, episode 19 makes no mention of Boone's character, but her death will surely resonate with Red.
With Liz apparently gone, Red's focus shifts to her baby. In the promo for "The Blacklist" season 3, episode 19 titled "Cape May," Red vows to do everything he can just to be part of Liz's baby's life. Tom, however, would rather her daughter stay away from him.
"I won't let you make the same mistake with her that you made with Liz," Tom tells Red.
While the promo for the next "The Blacklist" season 3 episode is all about Red's plans after Liz's passing away, his frustrations won't be the center of the episode.
According to the synopsis of the installment Red will be of help to an "enigmatic beauty" who escapes from unknown attackers. This individual will seek the assistance of Red to settle scores with the people that wronged her.
After that there's "The Blacklist" season 3, episode 20, which sounds like it will directly deal with the aftermath of Liz's death and how Red is handling the tragedy.
In this episode, Red will face "a ghost from his past," which rumors say will be in the form of Liz's mother Katarina Rostova, who is believed to be the person that sent Mr. Solomon hunting down her own daughter.
As for Liz's fate in "The Blacklist" season 3 and beyond, NBC is yet to provide details. Ryan Eggold, who plays Tom, is as curious and eager as viewers in having that ultimate question answered.
"I was as shocked as I think the fans are! I have loved working with Megan, especially as we explored the complicated dynamic in Liz and Tom's relationship," the actor told TV Line.
"I'm incredibly curious to see how this deep cut affects Tom's understanding of the world and what this means for the future of their daughter," Eggold added.
TV Line surmises that Liz's death will give way for Boone to be able to take her maternity leave.
"The Blacklist" season 3 returns with episode 19 "Cape May" on April 21 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. It will be followed by episode 19 "The Artax Network" on April 28.
