'The Flash' season 3 cast release date: Will Barry and Iris romance take off?

A rekindled romance could happen between Iris (Candice Patton) and Barry (Grant Gustin) in 'The Flash' season 3. The CW

Barry Allen and Iris West could still find themselves in a romantic relationship when "The Flash" returns for season 3.

Speaking in front of the panel during Saturday's Dallas Comic Con 2016, actress Candice Patton revealed that her character, Iris, will still reassure Grant Gustin's Barry that she will wait for him as he tries to save his mother from the Reverse-Flash by travelling through time. This could mean that they still have a chance to be together as a couple.

"It's interesting because they have a great relationship in which she's really supportive and loyal to Barry," Patton said in the panel discussion featured in the video below. "I think had he told her, she would have said exactly what she said to him on the patio of their house, which is that, 'Whatever you need to do, wherever you need to go, do it. I'll be here when you get back.'"

Aside from the possible rekindling of Barry and Iris's relationship, rumors claim that Barry could possibly be linked to Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) when Flash crosses over to "Supergirl" in the shows' upcoming seasons.

Gustin told ComicBook.com in May after The Flash helped Supergirl defeat the Silver Banshee (Italia Ricci) in "Supergirl" season 1, "We had a really fun dynamic and I bet next year, there's probably more crossovers than we've ever had," Gustin said, adding that his character and Kara "would be a good match."

Unlike Gustin, Benoist does not think that Kara and Barry should fall in love with each other anytime soon.

"I don't know that they'd ever get together," the actress told DC All Access. "I think they're too similar... I think they're pals, pigging out on ice cream."

But will Barry find time for romance when "The Flash" returns to The CW this fall?
