'The Following' season 4 happening? Netflix could be the show's last resort after Hulu says no
While fans of "The Following" are still looking forward to seeing a fourth season despite FOX's cancellation of the show, the chances of them getting their wish have just gotten slimmer as one of the streaming service providers already declined the project.
The third season of Kevin Williamson's thriller drama failed to get the same audience reception that it received during its first two seasons, which is why FOX decided to cancel the show after the third season finale. However, series producer Alexi Hawley told the Entertainment Weekly previously that they still have plans for a fourth season.
"It had to do with this pursuit of the serial killer organization while hiding Ryan's (Kevin Bacon) true alive status," which Hawley termed as "'vigilante' and 'lone wolf' in nature." She also mentioned that Ryan and Gwen's (Zuleikha Robinson) child will be raised by his niece Max (Jessica Stroup) and Mike (Shawn Ashmore).
This keeps the fans' hopes high, and they are all waiting to hear an announcement about the possibility that the show will get picked up by another network or a streaming service website, just like what Hulu did with the fourth season of "The Mindy Project" and Netflix's decision to air the fourth season of "Longmire."
However, Hulu already decided not to pick up the crime thriller.
This means that Netflix is the last resort for the series producers to bring "The Following" back to life. Despite the low ratings, the loyal followers of the show are still looking forward to finding out how Ryan survived Theo's (Michael Ealy) attack. They also want Ryan to go after Eliza (Annet Mahendru) and see if Theo managed to stay alive after he and Ryan fell over a waterfall.
Netflix has yet to make a decision about the fate of "The Following" season 4.
