Mutant lives are at stake in the upcoming episodes of "The Gifted." Spoilers for episodes 9 and 10 indicate that family connections are revealed and opinions are divided.

The official synopsis of "The Gifted" episode 9, titled "outfoX," reveals that the team at the Mutant Underground come up with a plan to help the mutants who are in the custody of Sentinel Services. However, their plan involves big risks. Knowing who they are up against, they could end up suffering the same fate as the mutants who are trapped. They could wind up like Pulse (Zach Roerig).

Meanwhile, Reed (Stephen Moyer) reveals the deals of the Strucker family history to Andy (Percy Hynes White) and Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) which serve to be a game-changer. In the previous episode, Reed's father Otto (Raymond J. Barry) revealed a crucial familial connection to the mutant terror attack back in the 60s. It turns out that Otto himself was a mutant, and was the son of Andreas von Strucker (Paul Cooper), one half of the twins known as Fenris. He revealed that both Andy and Lauren share the same abilities as the twins, even asking Reed if they have held hands, perhaps while they used their powers.

Apart from their connection to the Fenris twins, Reed had also learned that he himself was a mutant. However, Otto managed to suppress the X-gene that was present in him with the use of a serum he helped develop while working for Trask Industries before.

Could Andy and Lauren try to use their powers the same way as their great grandfather once did? Perhaps.

The official synopsis of episode 10, titled "eXploited" indicates that Jace (Coby Bell) will be forced to turn over something of great value to Dr. Campbell (Garret Dillahunt). Ever since teaming up with Dr. Campbell, Jace has discovered how they managed to turn the mutants that they capture into weapons for their benefit. It does seem like he is starting to have second thoughts about their partnership despite being determined to capture every mutant in the country.

Back at the Mutant Underground headquarters, opinions are divided regarding their next move. This leads Reed and Caitlin (Amy Acker) to take matters into their own hands in order to come up with a solution to whatever they are trying to settle. Based from the promotional photos, it seems that fans will be able to get to know Esme (Skyler Samuels) a lot better.

Her introduction led to some speculation regarding which X-Men character she will be playing. There was a big chance that she was playing Esme Cuckoo, one of the five sisters known as the Stepford Cuckoos, the cloned daughters of telepath Emma Frost. Now, it seems that it is confirmed, and the episode will see her causing some serious damage.

"The Gifted" airs Mondays at 10 p.m. EST on FOX.
