'The Good Wife' season 6 spoilers: Alicia steps down from being State Attorney in episode 20

The Good Wife season 4 episode 20 CBS

The season 6 finale for "The Good Wife" will see Alicia Florrick stepping down from her position as State Attorney due to voter fraud. The whole sixth season focused on proving that Alicia did not steal votes and even when she was innocent, a lot has since happened that ruined her position. Now she will be resigning before the season is over.

In previous episodes, the Democratic Party requested her to step down despite her innocence in order to help save the Democratic majority in the state senate election where popularity votes are the most important. She later discovered that voting machines were deliberately programmed to move votes to her name, entirely without her consent.

Hence, in the promotional trailer and the synopsis posted on TVLine, Alicia is depicted giving her resignation speech while thanking her husband for always being by her side. It was not confirmed if she would be returning to her old job at the law firm or if this would signify a big change in her career.

According to the Latin Post, the finale will also focus on Alicia's relationship with Peter.

"Whether Alicia and Peter are living under the same roof or not, there is something very real there. We've seen a very deep connection between these two people throughout the series," said executive producer Michelle King.

A report by the IBTimes indicates that the episode might see Alicia leaving Peter. The site continues to explain that actress Julianna Margulies had previously expressed her interest in seeing her character leave Peter for good.

Alicia won't be the only focus of the episode, however. The official synopsis states that R.D. will be turning to both Cary and Diane to debate against two "ultra conservative" lawyers regarding a "test case involving mandatory minimum sentencing."

"The Good Wife" season 4 episode 20, "The Deconstruction," is set to air on CBS on April 26.
