'The Office' revival eyed at NBC
Reports say NBC is looking to revive the comedy series "The Office."
According to TVLine, several sources have confirmed that "The Office" will be getting a continuation season, which will run from 2018 to 2019.
The insiders added that the revival would still be set at the same workplace -- at the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of Dunder Mifflin's Scranton. It will star most of the old characters, sans Steve Carell, who played Michael Scott, the branch's regional manager for seven of its nine seasons. NBC is reportedly looking for a new boss, as well as other new character additions.
The rumor comes just a few months after NBC successfully revived the iconic comedy "Will & Grace" in September. Fresh from its return, the comedy series received two nominations for the Golden Globe Awards -- Best Actor for a Musical or Comedy Series for Eric McCormack and Best Musical or Comedy for TV.
A month before the re-launch of "Will & Grace," NBC president Bob Greenblatt told the media that the company is eyeing several other iconic shows for a reboot, among which are Tina Fey's "30 Rock" and "The Office."
"We often talk about 'The Office,' I've talked to Greg (Daniels) four times over the past few years. It's always, 'maybe some day but not now'," Greenblatt told Deadline in August. "There is certainly an open invitation but we don't have anything happening right now. If he wants to do it, I would do it."
NBC has yet to confirm the rumor, and it is yet unknown which of the characters are sure to return.
"The Office" was a mockumentary based on a BBC original series of the same name. The U.S. adaptation followed a group of office workers and their clashing personalities at Dunder Mifflin, a paper company. The comedy ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013.
