"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will explore a new dynamic between Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham), although the two will not be hooking up any time soon, reports TV Guide. As a matter of fact, a key part of their dynamic this season partly involves Damon's hopes for Bonnie to die so he could be together again with Elena (Nina Dobrev.)

Season 6 ended with Elena cursed, which forced her to remain in slumber until the day her best friend Bonnie dies. According to the preview, Damon won't necessarily attempt to kill Bonnie, but he does joke about her death from time to time. The report cites that Damon will nearly allow Bonnie to get hit by a car.

The Hollywood Reporter first indicated that this may be a part of their dynamic, although it was first stated to be in a comedic manner. The report cites Damon telling Bonnie to choke on her cocktail peanuts and then later to ride a bicycle without a helmet. Bonnie simply replies to these statements with a sarcastic "Keeps getting funnier" retort.

However, the preview from TV Guide showcases that Bonnie may realize that Damon is no longer joking and that he might really desire for her death just so he could be with Elena. How this strains their relationship as partners has yet to be seen, but it does drive the point that the two will not be romantically involved for the time being.

The report states that their friendship might not be able to make it through Damon's resentment.

It doesn't appear that this bitterness will last for long, however, as the report states that when they return home they will find Heretics causing trouble, forcing Damon and Bonnie to unite and repair their friendship in order to once again save the day.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 premieres this Oct. 8.
