'The 100' season 3 episode 8 spoilers news: Lexa's death paving the way for bigger changes?

The death of Lexa (Alycia Debnam-Carey) will have some serious repercussions in the upcoming episodes of "The 100" season 3.

During the episode titled "Thirteen," fans of the show were shocked to see the Grounder commander's life ended by her very own second-in-command Titus (Neil Sandilands) after he tried to kill Clarke (Eliza Taylor).

Showrunner Jason Rothenberg explained via TVLine that Lexa's death will serve several purpose for the series.

"We have these two big stories — the A.I. story and the Grounder's political story — but there was no unifying moment, nothing that connected them," Rothenberg explained. "When I came up with the idea of a technological reincarnation as a way to explain the Grounder mythology, that the Commander is a reincarnated position, that was something everyone got excited about. You can't tell a story about reincarnation, technological or otherwise, without that person dying first."

However, the showrunner could not say if this will be the last time that viewers will see Lexa on the show. Rothenberg pointed out that Lexa revealed that she can hear the other commanders talk to her in her dreams. This could mean that it is still possible to see her return to the show in some form in the future.

Meanwhile, Rothenberg also told Variety that the next episode of "The 100" season 3 will center on the events that are happening in Arkadia. It will allegedly show the effects of the rebellion under Pike's rule (Michael Beach). This will also be a very difficult episode for Bellamy (Bob Morley), since he will be torn about whom he should support once the bloody battle erupts.

The eighth episode of "The 100" season 3 is titled "Terms and Conditions." Its official synopsis reads:

"Kane (Henry Ian Cusick) is searching for a peaceful way to handle things but soon realizes he may be forced to resort to drastic measures. Meanwhile, Pike suspects that there may be a leak within the walls of Arkadia. Lastly, Raven (Lindsey Morgan) has a plan and reaches out to Jasper (Devon Bostick) for help."

"The 100" season 3 episode 8 airs Thursday, March 10, on The CW.
