The CW has released their first trailer for "The 100" season 4, showcasing that the main conflict for the upcoming season is no longer a separate tribe or group of people but the Earth itself as it strikes back with an impending nuclear apocalypse.

"Our enemy isn't something that can be fought, it can't be reasoned with, it can't be killed. When all is lost, can hope survive? can we survive? After everything we've done, do we deserve to?" states Clarke (Eliza Taylor) in a gloomy voice over.

In a report from Variety, series creator Jason Rothenberg explained that the nuclear apocalypse has not been filmed and that it will not take place until later on in the season. He also explained that the main characters would not be about trying to stop the apocalypse because they can't, instead it would be about surviving the apocalypse.

Rothenberg also explained that in season 4, The City of Lights was indeed gone but the "flame" exists and that all the collective minds of previous commanders, including Lexa (Alycia Debnam Carey). He also confirmed that while Lexa was not coming back for season 4 the flame would play a larger role in the upcoming episodes.

Accordig to the report, whoever has the flame in their possession will have significant power and authority. There are no Nightbloods left given they were all extinguished in season 3. However, there are still a few Nghtblood scouts and Rothernberg confirmed that the audiences will meet one in season 4.

During the panel, as reported by Variety, it was confirmed that the Ice Nation's King Roan (Zach McGowan) would be coming back in a "big way" in season 4 although the actors and showrunner did not further elaborate on how this would be executed in the series. 

"The 100" season 4 will premiere on the CW Network this midseason, presumably in January 2017.
