Showtime's critically acclaimed drama "The Affair" is back and the first look of its new trailer spells trouble. The promo released on Saturday features plenty of heated arguments, tears and vengeance, and of course, steamy sex.

It seems that the honeymoon phase is over for Alison (Ruth Wilson) and Noah (Dominic West) in the second season of the show. They shared a brief moment of happiness as shown in the trailer but it looked short-lived as all their issues seem to start catching up with them

Cole (Joshua Jackson) is back and manages to track down Alison, with every intention of winning her back. The exes shared a sweet hug later in the trailer.

Noah's legal troubles, meanwhile, is still casting a pall on an otherwise idyllic life that he and Alison created together in the city. "The Affairs" season 1 ended in a cliffhanger, with viewers witnessing how Noah was arrested for the murder of Scotty Lockhart.

There was also his ex-wife, Helen (Maura Tierney), performing the role of the scorned woman to a T. It appears that she still has major problems with Allison and she does not want her near the kids.

The trailer ends showing Alison and Noah together, with the former saying, "Do you honestly think things turn out for the best? That true love conquers all?"

"The Affair" premiered on Showtime on October 12, 2014 and received mostly praise from critics. Rotten Tomato gave it a rating of 94 percent, with an average of 8.5/10.

Its consensus reads, "Thanks to some smart, creative storytelling and spectacular performances, The Affair is a somber, bewitching exploration of truth and desire."

Metacritic also gave the show a favorable rating, with a score of 85 out of 100 based on 28 reviews.

The second season of "The Affair" will return to Showtime in the fall.
