'The Affair' season 3 premiere, spoilers: Season starts with a time jump

Showtime

"The Affair" season 2 ended with a sudden twist when Noah (Dominic West) took the blame for the death of Scotty (Colin Donnell) when in fact it was Helen (Maura Tierney) who was driving the car that killed him and it was Allison (Ruth Wilson) who pushed Scotty into the car's pathway. However, season 3 will not start with Noah getting into jail.

Instead, a report from Hollywood Life confirms that there will be a slight time jump at the beginning of season 3. This was later confirmed by executive producer Anya Epstein. Unfortunately Anya did not elaborate on how much time will pass between the season 3 premiere and the season 2 finale.

"No it skips ahead in time," Epstein stated when asked if season 3 will pick up right where season 2 left off. "There is definitely a time jump. It also jumps around as it gets going. You're going to see the beginning and then you're seeing some time before that. We're experimenting a little bit more this season."

Epstein also teased that season 3 may introduce one more point of view to the show. Season 1 started with just the perspectives of the two leads, Noah and Allison. However, by season 2 this grew to four perspectives with the addition of Helen and Cole's (Joshua Jackson) perspective. A fifth perspective is set to be introduced in season 3.

The report points out that Cole's new wife Luisa (Catalina Sandino Moreno) may be the fifth person that the show will share a perspective from. During season 2 she was merely a recurring character, as Cole's fiancee, but now that they are married it is possible her side of the story will have a stronger impact on the show.

According to the report, production and premiere for season 3 will be delayed given that the series creator, Sarah Treem, recently had a child. This indicates that season 3 may not premiere by October similar to seasons 1 and 2 but instead may be pushed to November or even early 2017.
