"The Bard's Tale" series will finally have a new installment after almost three decades of waiting.

The news came from game developer InXile Entertainment and Brian Fargo himself during the PAX South event on Saturday, ending the 27-year wait for a sequel of the classic dungeon-crawler RPG that released its last installment in 1988. This time, the new installment of the game dubbed as "The Bard's Tale IV" will try to make an updated version of the classic game that originally came out in 1985.

"This is a special game for me. It was the first game that really put Interplay on the map, and it just happens that this will fall on the 30th anniversary," shared Brian Fargo, the head of the team that develops the sequel for the popular classic fantasy role playing game, during an interview with IGN.

The new installment of "The Bard's Tale" will present an updated version of its graphics, design, and sound despite returning to the maps like Skara Brae and classes that made the game popular during its early versions.

Fargo also gave a few teasers about the soon-to-be released sequel during the interview. According to the game developer, the game will still have its "traditional turn-based combat," where there will be lots of battle diversity and strength.

"You look at something like Hearthstone, for example. It's sort of that going back-and-forth process, and you see the complexity and detail and strategy and nuance that can happen. It's really an amazing system. I love those modern influences. I took a lot away from that, and see things we need to do with our combat system," the game developer added.

"The Bard's Tale IV" is not the first project by InXile and Fargo for the franchise. Back in 2004, the game developers unveiled a non-sequel/non-remake installment that is also called "The Bard's Tale" to reintroduce the series to the new generation of players.

Since the game is still in its early stages of development, the release date is still unannounced as of the moment.
