A lot of questions had been left unanswered when Red (James Spader) admitted that he is the real father of Liz (Megan Boone) in the fall finale of "The Blacklist" season 4.

In the final episode before the series took a long hiatus for the holidays, it was proved through a DNA test that Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) is not Liz's real father. Kirk still took Liz to become his captive, but Red tried to rescue her by offering himself to be taken by Kirk's men in her place.

When Kirk confronted Red about his true relationship with Liz, Red immediately confessed that she is his daughter. While fans have already guessed about this possibility since season 1, new reports claim that Red's confession might be another lie.

According to reports, Red might have opted to lie about Liz's paternity to save his own life since Kirk believed that his wife and Liz's mother, Katarina Rostova (Lotte Verbeek), cheated on him when they were together.

Meanwhile, other reports claim that the arc involving Kirk was officially over, and the series will move on to another direction. "You'll see a new, really compelling story start to bubble up very shortly," EP Jon Bokenkamp told Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview. "Actually, when I think about it, maybe the seeds for this new story were planted some time ago," he went on to say.

While Bokenkamp did not provide any details about the next storyline of "The Blacklist" season 4, fans are looking forward to seeing the effect of the poison injected by Kirk on Red's blood when the series returns for the second half of the season.

On the other hand, speculations claimed that NBC will cancel "The Blacklist" at the end of season 4 because of the decrease in its ratings. However, the network remains mum about the validity of the reports.

The second half of "The Blacklist" season 4 will air on Thursday, Jan. 5.
