'The Blacklist' season 4 spoilers: Liz's 'twisted past' and possibly her father's identity to be revealed

"The Blacklist" season 4 will delve into the "twisted past" of Elizabeth (Megan Boone), a part of her that is certainly marred with tragedy and secrecy.

The new season will specifically explore on the identity of her father, which is the long standing mystery that Liz has always lived with.

The arrival of Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) in "The Blacklist" will help fans learn if Red (James Spader) is her father or not, which is the lingering mystery on the show.

Red has always been overprotective of Liz and this will not change in the next season even Liz had him go through believing that she is dead just to get away from him.

In the trailer for "The Blacklist" season 4, Red found where Kirk is and where he is keeping Liz, who gave Red a hint so he would know where to shoot and hit the enemy.

As Melty points out, this scene suggests that Kirk has failed to warm up to Liz, which is not a surprise since she kidnapped her and kept her away from her child whose whereabouts she has no idea about.

However, this also hints that this could change as "The Blacklist" season 4 goes on, when Kirk makes his case about being the long lost (and supposed to be dead) father of Liz.

In previous teasers, it is safe to say that Red manages to get to Liz, and tries to convince her that whatever Kirk told her is not true.

In one clip, Red told Liz that "Alexander Kirk is fundamentally dishonest." During one of Kirk and Liz's encounters, he tells her that Red is a "spiteful evil man."

It is not shocking to see Liz to side with Red initially seeing that he has done nothing but to get her out of harm's way despite his shortcomings and secrets, not to mention Kirk abducted her, which is not the way to make good impression.

As executive producer Jon Bokenkamp promised during a chat with Entertainment Weekly, "Alexander Kirk and his relationship to Liz will ultimately give us a far deeper understanding of Red's relationship to Liz in season 4.

Whether or not this will lead to the revelation of the true identity of Liz's father remains to be seen. "The Blacklist" season 4 premieres Thursday, Sept. 22 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
