'The Blacklist' season 4 release date: Red and Liz's mother to have an affair?

Alexander Kirk will be of help in revealing who Liz really is to Red in "The Blacklist" season 4.NBC

"The Blacklist" season 4 may finally reveal who Red (James Spader) really is to Liz (Megan Boone). No matter what Liz has done to get away from him, she still has so many questions that only Red could answer.

When "The Blacklist" returns, the question of their real connection will linger in Liz's mind. However, executive producer Jon Bokenkamp teased that she does not expect to get anything out of him because "there's only so much that [Red] is going to tell her."

Red refuses to give information to Liz, and while he technically does not lie to her, what he tells her are merely "partial truths." Red does that "for reasons that are very important to both of them."

The question of why Red has been so protective of Liz over the years will be dealt with in "The Blacklist" season 4, thanks to the entrance of Alexander Kirk, who claims to be the father of the FBI special agent.

What complicates this is that Liz knows that she killed her father in order to protect her mother. She realized this in the second season, and it led to her becoming a fugitive. Red helped her evade the clutches of the police.

While it is unclear if Kirk is telling the truth, Bokenkamp teased that the criminal boss getting into the mix in "The Blacklist" season 4 will help uncover the relationship between Red and Liz.

According to Melty, Liz could end up being revealed as Red's daughter, but with a twist—she was the fruit of an affair between Red and Katarina Rostova aka Liz's mother. The tricky part now is why Kirk is claiming to be Liz's supposedly deceased father.

"The Blacklist" season 4 is expected to air this fall, possibly around September or October. It is rumored that a fifth season is also on the table. A spinoff titled "The Blacklist: Redemption" starring Tom (Ryan Eggold) and Scottie (Famke Janssen) is slated to air either late this year or early next year.
