'The Escapists: The Walking Dead' announced

The Escapists The Walking DeadTeam 17

Team 17, the creators of the cult classic "Worms" games, have teamed up with Skybound Entertainment for a crossover edition of the indie-game "The Escapists" with their new title, "The Escapists: The Walking Dead."

The game plays just like the original, sporting 8-bit graphics and bit-tune music. Players take control of a character and need to create a safe escape route to advance to the next area.

Instead of escaping a prison and avoiding security guards this time around, players will need to escape locations based on "The Walking Dead" such as Hershel's farm, the Alexandria Safe Zone and the prison while avoiding hordes of zombies. It is also hinted in the trailer that players will have to fight human enemies as well, such as Negan's group of mercenaries.

Players will take control of lead character Rick Grimes and will start off with his escape from the hospital after he awakes from his coma. The game is based more on the comic books than the hit television series but only loosely, meaning it will take liberties with the locations, plot, and characters to fit the gameplay.

This means players will encounter familiar characters such as Glenn Rhee, Maggie, and Dale but may not get to see TV-only characters such as the Dixon brothers or Carol. The latter died early in the comics, survived by her daughter Sophia but this was changed in the television series where Sophia died and Carol lived on.

According to a report from IGN, the original "The Escapists" proved to be a big success when it was launched for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC, selling well over 600,000 copies. According to the report, "The Walking Dead" edition is scheduled for release in late summer of this year but only for Xbox One and PC, with no current announcement for a PS4 port.
