Perhaps it is fitting for Bethesda Softworks' survival horror game "The Evil Within 2" to be released in the month of Halloween on Friday the 13th. With the renowned Shinji Mikami, the creator of the original "Resident Evil," still on board for the sequel, the title seemed promising since it was announced. It may be a little too early to tell at this point, but how does it hold up to early reviews?

According to Destructoid, after about eight hours into the game, "The Evil Within 2" definitely felt like the appropriate sequel. The game now is much bigger with more to explore and discover, and the character development of main protagonist Sebastian Castellanos feels natural. However, the game still suffered from the "sloppiness" that the previous game did – only now, on a much bigger scale. The visual imagery of the game is still its strong suit, though.

Like its predecessor, "The Evil Within 2" still does not give players an abundance of resources, which may make them feel a general sense of vulnerability all throughout the game. In a review by Hardcore Gamer, the combat has been improved so far regarding the level of intensity of each encounter with a wide array of monsters Sebastian encounters in the game.

The controls may feel a little stiff, which is probably how the developers intended for it to be to throw off even the most skilled players of the shooter genre. Notably, the game still is not too hard that players might think of disregarding the game halfway through. In fact, VG 24/7 reported that there are different difficulty settings for every player. For those who are not really up for a challenge, the Casual mode will not even trouble players with inventory management.

Yet, for those looking for a full ride of the game, players can still choose from Survival, which is the middle ground, whereas Nightmare is the most challenging. According to PC Gamer, if players dare to embark on a new game, they will be presented with the Classic mode difficulty option which will offer players with even more challenges compared to the Nightmare difficulty.
