'The Flash' season 2 spoilers: More villains in Central City

The FlashCW

The first epic season of "The Flash" ended on a sad note, when one of Barry Allen's (Grant Allen) closest friends sacrificed himself for the sake of Team Flash.

In the season 1 finale, Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett) decided to end his own life so that he could stop the evil plans of Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh). It turns out that the villain's real name is Eobard Thawne, a future descendant of Eddie, which is why he decided to end his life so that Eobard would not be born.

Eddie's plan worked, which means that Eobard will cease to exist. But it does not mean that his passing is something that Barry and his friends will celebrate, because they lost a dear friend and Iris' (Candice Patton) former boyfriend.

Of course, it does not mean that there will no longer be bad guys in Central City when "The Flash" returns for season 2. Executive producers Andrew Kreisberg mentioned in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that more villains, as well as more Speedsters, will be introduced when the show returns to The CW this fall.

"We are going to introduce a few more speedsters next year and a bunch more villains. How they and those villains come about is part of the surprise of season two. We're really excited. [Executive producer] Greg [Berlanti] and myself and [executive producer] Geoff Johns and the writers, the cast, the crew, the directors — we are so proud of this season of television," Kreisberg stated.

The exec also mentioned that although Eddie was successful in stopping Eobard from being born, it does not mean that Cavanagh will not return in the second season of "The Flash." Kreisberg mentioned that the actor will remain as one of the regular cast members of the superhero series.
