'The Flash' season 2 episode 18 spoilers: Zoom's origins revealed

The Flash - ZoomThe CW

"The Flash" season 2 is going on another hiatus for a few weeks and is set to return by the middle of April, where episode 18 will finally give insight into the origins of the villain known as Zoom (Teddy Sears). While an official synopsis has not yet been released online, a new promo trailer showcases what fans can expect when the show returns.

Showcased in the trailer is a little bit of Zoom's origins. It is mentioned that Zoom is indeed Hunter Zolomon, who was previously revealed to be the Earth-1 counterpart to Earth-2's Jay Garrick. It was assumed that Zolomon was not connected to the Speed Force but it turns out he was a former convincted criminal sentenced to the electric chair.

While the trailer does not reveal exactly how Zoom gained his powers, it is possible that being electrocuted during the time the Accelerator exploded may have granted him his powers or it is possible that Zoom gained his powers through different means.

The trailer also hints that Barry Allen aka the Flash (Grant Gustin) might already be faster than Zoom and this is implied when the Flash is shown taking down Zoom in a one-on-one fight. However, Zoom is then showcased getting up, now speaking in a modulated monstrous voice, which indicates he still has secrets to win the battle.

Not much else is shown but there is a little bit of dialogue between Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) and Zoom where the latter indicates that he has been going under a disguise to give people a false sense of hope. How this will play into the overall plot has yet to be revealed.

According to a report from Cartermatt, the delay in episode 18's release is due to the fact that the season 2 finale has also been moved. When the series returns on April 19, it will continue consecutively every week until the finale episode.
