'The Flash' spoilers: Will Barry Allen alter the future in upcoming episode?

FlashpointWikipedia

As the Flash heads into its climactic episodes, the question in people's minds is on whether Barry Allen aka the Flash (Grant Gustin) would go back in time and save his mother from being murdered.

For those who have been following the Flash series since the start, it will be recalled that Nora Allen was killed by an unknown speedster which later turned out to be the Reverse Flash or Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh).

In the last few episodes, the series has been slowly unfolding the series of events tying up Wells to the Reverse Flash, capped by an accidental time jump on the Flash when he was trying to save the city from being wiped out by a Tsunami.

With Barry now discovering the ability to travel back in time, does it follow that he would try and go back to the time before his mother would be murdered? Such could be a possibility but something with dire consequences which could possibly end the existence of the Flash in the first place.

Avid DC comic fans and animated viewers may somehow tie this up with the Flashpoint (of Flashpoint Paradox anime version) where the Flash would save his mother and eventually lose his powers.

In that series, it was all the handy work of Dr. Zoom or the Reverse Flash. Could this be the same plot we would see in the coming episodes?

For those who are unaware, the animated series did show the Flash powerless after saving his mother. Not only that, a lot of other characters ceased or never existed – including the fabled Justice League.

Allen would of course find a way to get back his powers but eventually give up his mother. In short, altering time brings dire consequences and in a fictional world where the Flash is needed, sacrifices have to be made no matter how hard they may be.

So will this mean that Flash's efforts of traveling back in time will prove futile since messing with the series of events would lead to costly consequences? It wouldn't be surprising at all.
